Day by day
The 5-day plan
1
Day 1 — Jaipur → Bikaner
Drive west into the desert belt. Afternoon at Junagarh Fort — one of the few Rajasthan forts never conquered — and the old city's lanes.

Day 2 — Bikaner → Jaisalmer
The long desert drive to Jaisalmer. Evening at the Sam sand dunes for sunset — camel and cart rides there are run by local operators, your own.

Day 3 — Jaisalmer sightseeing
Jaisalmer Fort in the morning (people still live inside it), Patwon ki Haveli and Gadisar Lake in the afternoon.

Day 4 — Jaisalmer → Jodhpur
Drive to the Blue City. Mehrangarh Fort takes a good half day — don't rush the museum — then the clock tower market in the evening.

Day 5 — Jodhpur → Jaipur
Morning drive back to Jaipur. Drop at your hotel, the railway station or the airport — the car is yours till you're home.

Food, tea & facilities
Bikaner means bhujia, full stop. Jodhpur means mirchi vada and makhaniya lassi. At the Sam dunes, dinner comes with the camp, folk dance and all, so book the camp package together.

Dhaba chai between the cities. In Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, get up to a rooftop cafe in the old city, the fort views are free with the chai.

All three cities have licensed shops. The desert camps run their own bars, but tell the camp in advance so they stock up.
Restrooms & Sulabh Shauchalaya
Sulabh complexes in all the cities. On the desert highways, petrol pumps and dhabas. Carry water, distances are long.
