Overview

About this property

Rang Mahal is a 4-star, palace-style hotel on the fort road in Jaisalmer — the tour's own guide puts it that way, and its listing's hero photo backs it up: a golden-sandstone palace facade with a lawn, palms and flowering beds.

The listing shows the full-service range: free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, free parking, an outdoor pool, a spa, a fitness centre, a restaurant and a bar, plus room service, laundry, a business centre, an airport shuttle and kid-friendly rooms. That is the palace stay on the road toward the dunes.

One honest note about the photos: the listing's By owner filter holds only 2 photos, both exteriors, so the rest of the 10 here come from the listing's own All gallery — the same property, credited as a Google Maps listing throughout.

This page is built from the hotel's Google Maps listing, not its official site. For room types, menus and prices, the hotel's own site — reached through the Book button — is the right place to check. Note the check-out: 11:00 AM here, not noon like the other three Desert hotels.

Rooms

Rooms the listing's photos show

The listing's gallery covers the property's exteriors, pool, rooms and bathrooms — 15 or more photos on the first All-gallery page. The rooms in the photos are the palace-hotel kind, matching the golden-sandstone facade outside.

We do not list room types or counts here, because the listing does not publish them. The gallery shows the range — exteriors, pool, rooms, bathrooms — and the hotel's own site will have the latest list and prices.

Room types and prices change with the season, so the hotel's own website will have the latest list. We do not show prices here because they change often, and we do not want to show you an old price.

Food & drink

Where to eat

The listing shows a restaurant and a bar on site, plus free breakfast. That covers the day's meals without leaving the hotel — useful before the dunes evening or after a long fort day.

Outside the hotel, Jaisalmer's old-city restaurants are the food, and a rooftop cafe in the old city gives fort views free with the chai. At the Sam dunes, dinner comes with the camp package, folk dance and all.

For restaurant names, cuisines and meal timings, the hotel's own site is the right place to check. The listing confirms a restaurant and a bar exist; it does not name them, so neither do we.

Things to do

A day of fort, havelis and dunes

A good day at Rang Mahal starts at Jaisalmer Fort — Sonar Quila, the living golden fort, still inhabited. Then Patwon ki Haveli, the ornate merchant houses, and Gadisar Lake, the historic lake with temples and chhatris.

In the evening, the Sam sand dunes outside the city are the sunset — camel and cart rides there are run by local operators, your own. The hotel sits on the Jaisalmer–Sam road, so the dunes evening is the natural end of the day.

Back at the hotel, the pool is the easy way to end a long fort-and-dunes day, and the restaurant covers dinner if you skip the camp package.

A second day can be slower: the old-city lanes, a rooftop cafe with fort views, and another pass through the havelis you rushed the first time.

Location

Where it is, and what is near

Jaisalmer is the golden city, and its fort is the reason. Jaisalmer Fort — Sonar Quila — is a living fort, still inhabited, rising out of the desert in the same golden sandstone as everything around it.

The classic Jaisalmer day pairs the fort with its merchant havelis and its lake: Patwon ki Haveli, ornate merchant houses in the old city, and Gadisar Lake, the historic lake with temples and chhatris around it.

In the evening, the Sam sand dunes outside the city are the sunset — camel and cart rides there are run by local operators, your own. Dinner at the dunes comes with the camp package, folk dance and all, so book the camp together.

Getting here

How to reach the hotel

The trail reaches Jaisalmer on day two, on the long desert drive from Bikaner. The evening goes to the Sam sand dunes for sunset — the drive is the day, and the dunes are the reward.

Inside Jaisalmer, the fort and the old city are walked, not driven. The lanes are narrow and the havelis are the walk itself. For the dunes, the camp or a local operator arranges the ride — the tour's own note says the rides are run by local operators, your own.

Best time

Best time to visit Jaisalmer

October to March, no exceptions. Desert summers are brutal, and winter nights in the dunes are the whole point of going — the tour's own line, and it is exactly right.

Winter evenings at the Sam dunes are cool enough for the sunset and the camp dinner. Summer turns the same dunes into an oven; the fort walk and the dune evening both suffer.

Good to know

Before you book

Old-city restaurants are the food here — the tour's food note sends you to them, and to a rooftop cafe in the old city, where the fort views are free with the chai.

At the Sam dunes, dinner comes with the camp package, folk dance and all, so book the camp together. The desert camps run their own bars, but tell the camp in advance so they stock up.

Sulabh complexes cover restrooms in the city; on the desert highways, petrol pumps and dhabas. Carry water — distances are long.
