Overview

About this property

The Riverview Retreat is a resort at Zero Garjia, Dhikuli, Ramnagar, on the Kosi river and at the edge of Jim Corbett National Park. Its own site says it offers a luxurious escape in nature, where wilderness and comfort blend, and where guests can explore Corbett's wildlife or simply unwind in a calm setting.

The stay is in villas and private cottages, according to the resort's own site. Each villa and cottage is designed to give a cosy yet luxurious feel, with views of the green around and the river, and with modern amenities inside. The resort's own site also talks about open spaces and expansive lawns, which give families and groups room to spread out, and which suit weddings and gatherings.

The river is the main feature here. The resort's own site says it overlooks the Kosi river, and that dining at Gurney House & Deck gives views of the landscape and the flowing river. A river view from the dining deck is a strong reason to eat at the resort, especially in the evening, when the river and the trees cool down.

The Riverview Retreat suits families, couples and groups who want a riverside stay near Corbett, with cottages rather than rooms in a block. Its own site says it caters to romantic getaways, family holidays and corporate retreats. If you want a cottage with its own space, and a river to look at, this one fits well. If you want a town hotel with shops nearby, Dhikuli is a resort area, not a town, so plan around the resort itself.

The resort is part of Leisure Hotels, the same group that runs The Naini Retreat in Nainital, which is already on this tour. That link is useful for guests doing the full Kumaon Lakes and Corbett tour: you can stay with the same group in Nainital and in Corbett, with a similar style of stay in both places. The group also reuses the Gurney House dining name at both properties, so guests who ate at Gurney House in Nainital will find the same name here, by the Kosi river instead of by the lake.

Rooms

Villas, cottages and suites

The resort's own site says each villa and private cottage is designed for a cosy yet luxurious stay, with views of the green and the river, and with modern amenities. The cottages suit families and groups, since a cottage gives more space and more privacy than a single room, and the resort's own site says they suit families, couples and groups.

The Suites are the second stay type with a page of their own. The resort's own suites page says they are spacious, with a sit-out, a balcony and a garden, so there is no shortage of space to spend downtime in. A sit-out and a garden matter at a riverside resort, since mornings and evenings are best spent outside, looking at the river and the trees.

The resort's own site does not publish a full room list on the pages we checked, so we do not name further room types here. Third-party sites list deluxe rooms, duplex rooms and lodges with two, three or four bedrooms, but the resort's own fetched pages do not confirm those names, so we leave them out rather than repeat unconfirmed claims.

Room types and prices change with the season, so the resort's own website will have the latest list. We do not show prices here because they change often, and we do not want to show you an old price. If a cottage or a suite matters to you, book it by name on the resort's official site, and ask about the river view when you book.

Food & drink

Where to eat

Gurney House & Deck is the resort's dining venue. The resort's own site says guests can savour local and international cuisine there, while enjoying views of the landscape and the flowing Kosi river. That river view is the main reason to eat here: a meal with the river in front of you, rather than a wall.

Mahaseer Bar is the second venue. The resort's own site says it gives a relaxed atmosphere for expertly crafted cocktails and premium beverages, and that it is the perfect spot to end the day. Whether on the deck or in the bar's lively setting, it suits an evening drink after a safari or a walk.

The resort's own site says its in-house dining options serve local and international delicacies, which covers the day's meals for a stay that is mostly about the river and the park. For the latest menus and meal timings, the resort's website is the right place to check, since timings can change with the season.

Outside the resort, Dhikuli is a resort area, not a town with many restaurants, so the resort's own venues are the practical choice for most meals. Ramnagar town is the fallback for a meal on the way in or out. If you have food needs, tell the resort when you book, since a resort like this plans meals ahead.

Things to do

A day of safari, river and lawns

A good day at The Riverview Retreat starts with a safari. The resort's own site lists wildlife safaris among its activities, and Corbett's zones are reached from Ramnagar. Book your safari permit early: permits open 45 days ahead, and you should book the safari before the taxi, not after. Carry photo ID to the gate.

After the safari, the river is the place to rest. The resort's own site says it overlooks the Kosi river, and the dining deck gives views of the flowing water. An afternoon by the river, watching the water and the trees, is the quiet half of a Corbett day, after the early start and the bumpy safari.

In the late afternoon, a nature walk is the easy option. The resort's own site lists nature walks among its activities, and the resort's lawns and open spaces suit a slow walk with children. Garjia Temple near Dhikuli is the nearby spot worth a visit, and the Corbett Museum at Dhangarhi is the other classic stop, both on the Ramnagar side of the park.

In the evening, dinner at Gurney House & Deck, with the river in front of you, ends the day well, followed by a drink at Mahaseer Bar. If you have a second day, a second safari in a different zone is worth doing, since each zone has its own landscape. The resort's lawns also suit a slow second day, with no plan beyond the river and the trees.

One more point about Dhikuli is worth making. Dhikuli is a strip of resorts along the road to the park, and most guests here follow the same pattern: safari in the morning, rest in the afternoon, dinner at the resort. That pattern works well, but it means the resort you pick matters more than it would in a town, since you spend most of your time inside it. A riverside resort with cottages, lawns and a dining deck gives you places to be all day, not just a room to sleep in.

Location

Where it is, and what is near

Ramnagar is the gateway town for Jim Corbett, on the Kosi river at the edge of the forest. The town itself is small and busy, with the railway station, markets and the road to the safari gates. Most Corbett resorts sit in a belt around it — Dhikuli and Garjiya to one side, Marchula further up the Ramganga valley.

The Garjia Devi temple on the Kosi, a short drive from town, and the Corbett Museum at Dhangarhi gate are the two sights visitors most often add to a safari. The Kosi riverbed near Garjiya is a popular evening walk.

Getting here

How to reach the hotel

From Delhi, the road runs via Moradabad and Kashipur to Ramnagar, about 258 km. Ramnagar has its own railway station, which is how many visitors arrive before a taxi takes them to their resort.

Resorts at Dhikuli and Garjiya are a short drive from Ramnagar town. Tell your driver the resort name, not just 'Corbett', since similarly named resorts sit in different directions from town.

Safari permits open 45 days ahead and are checked against photo ID at the gate. Book the safari before the taxi, especially for weekends.

Best time

Best time to visit Ramnagar

November to June is the best time for the Corbett region, with pleasant weather for safaris and riverside evenings. Winter mornings are cold in open jeeps, so carry warm clothes.

Safari zones shut in the monsoon, from July to September. The town and resorts stay open, but wildlife days are not possible in those months.

Good to know

Before you book

Ramnagar is a working town, not a resort enclave. Expect town traffic near the station and market, and a quieter road once you turn toward Dhikuli or the gates.

Carry cash for small expenses around town, and keep your safari permit and photo ID together — you will need both at the gate.

If you are staying on the Kosi bank, follow the resort's guidance near the water. River levels change with the season.

This page keeps the name The Riverview Retreat, which is the name on the resort's official Leisure Hotels page. Do not confuse it with other Corbett resorts with similar names; the booking link on this page goes to the official Leisure Hotels page.
