Overview

About this property

Ramada by Wyndham Amritsar is a city hotel at 117 Hall Bazaar, in the old city near the Golden Temple. Its own Wyndham page describes a welcoming atmosphere and convenient amenities, such as free WiFi — a straightforward mid-range base in the market lanes, not a resort and not a heritage palace.

The location is the reason to pick it. Hall Bazaar is the old city's market street, and the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh are the walk from here — the same lanes the tour's own guide sends you to for juttis and phulkari. Staying here means the temple, the markets and the food are all on foot, with no car needed for the day's sightseeing.

One honest note about this page: the hotel's official Wyndham gallery could not be used — its images are CSS backgrounds with no downloadable element — so the photos here come from the hotel's own gallery on its Google Maps listing, credited as such. The rooms-page fetch also timed out, so we do not claim room counts, check-in times or a full amenities list here. What we describe below is what the hotel's own photos show, plus the free WiFi its official page confirms.

Ramada suits travellers who want a known brand, a central old-city address and a pool to come back to, at a simpler level than the Hyatt or the Taj. If you want luxury and a spa, pick those; if you want to be in the middle of the old city and walk everywhere, this is the practical pick.

Rooms

Rooms in the old city

The hotel's own photos show the room styles: a King Bed Deluxe Room with a king bed, blue patterned carpet, desk and armchair, and a twin-bedded guest room with teal bed runners and gold headboard panels. Bathrooms in the photos have a vanity with a large wood-framed mirror and a glass shower.

The rooms look clean, modern and comfortable — a standard branded-hotel room, not a themed or heritage room. That is the Ramada deal everywhere: the same reliable room, in this case a short walk from the temple instead of on a highway.

We do not list room types, room counts or prices here, because the hotel's rooms page could not be fetched and we will not guess. The hotel's official Wyndham page will have the latest list and prices — the Book button on this page goes straight there.

Food & drink

Where to eat

The hotel's own photos show three eating places: Cafe Avanti, a lobby lounge with sofas and a wood counter with gold detailing; the Rooftop Terrace Grill, poolside dining at dusk beside the lit pool; and La Piscine, poolside dining at night under pink and blue lighting. An Al Fresco buffet counter with chafing dishes and bread baskets appears in the photos too.

That is a good range for one hotel: a lounge for coffee, a rooftop grill for dinner, and poolside dining at night. But these are photo-evidenced, not menu-confirmed — for restaurant names, cuisines and timings, the hotel's official page is the right place to check before you plan a meal around them.

Outside the hotel, Hall Bazaar itself is the food walk: the old city's kulchas, lassi and jalebis at small places that mostly do not take cards. Eating at the hotel and eating in the lanes are two different Amritsars, and a good trip does both.

Things to do

A day of temple, markets and food

A good day at the Ramada starts on foot: the Golden Temple early morning for the calmest darshan, then Jallianwala Bagh next door and the Central Sikh Museum. The langar hall serves free meals round the clock — eating there is part of the visit, not an extra.

After the temple, Hall Bazaar is right outside — juttis, phulkari and the old city's shopfronts without needing a car at all. The Partition Museum in the Town Hall and Durgiana Temple fill the rest of the morning, and Gobindgarh Fort's museums and evening shows suit the late afternoon.

In the afternoon, the Attari-Wagah Border hosts the Beating Retreat ceremony — go early, because the crowds build well before it starts. Back at the hotel, the rooftop pool is the easy way to end a long walking day.

In the evening, the old city's food stalls are at their liveliest, and they are steps away. A second day can be slower: Ram Bagh Garden, a return to the temple at night when it is lit up, and another pass through the markets you rushed the first time.

Location

Where it is, and what is near

Amritsar is Punjab's spiritual and food capital, built around the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), the Sikh faith's holiest shrine. The old city around the temple — Hall Bazaar, Katra Jaimal Singh and the lanes near the Town Hall — is where the markets, the food and the history all sit together.

The classic Amritsar day pairs the temple with its neighbours: Jallianwala Bagh, the memorial to the 1919 massacre, right next to the temple; the Central Sikh Museum; Durgiana Temple, a Hindu temple complex modelled on the Golden Temple; and Gobindgarh Fort, a restored fort with museums and evening shows.

The Partition Museum in the Town Hall tells the story of the 1947 Partition, and Hall Bazaar and Katra Jaimal Singh are the markets for juttis and phulkari. In the afternoon, the Attari-Wagah Border hosts the Beating Retreat ceremony — go early, because the crowds build well before it starts.

Getting here

How to reach the hotel

Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport serves Amritsar — the Hyatt's own site puts it 30 minutes from its hotel, and the Taj's site puts it 11.7 km from Taj Swarna. Amritsar Junction is the city's railway station, and Delhi to Amritsar is a long highway day by taxi.

Inside the city, the old city around the Golden Temple is best explored on foot. The lanes near Hall Bazaar and the temple are narrow and crowded, so a car stays parked while you walk the markets and the temple complex.

Best time

Best time to visit Amritsar

October to March is the best time for Amritsar. The tour's own guide puts it plainly: Punjab's winter is made for walking the old city, and the fog usually burns off by ten in the morning.

Summer is hot, and the monsoon months are humid. If you come outside winter, plan the temple and the markets for the morning and evening, not the middle of the day.

Good to know

Before you book

The Golden Temple is open round the clock, and its langar hall serves free meals round the clock to everyone — it is one of the largest community kitchens in the world. Go early morning or late evening for the calmest darshan, and cover your head and wash your feet at the entrances, as every visitor does.

The Wagah Border ceremony happens in the afternoon and draws big crowds — arrive early and carry as little as possible, since security checks take time. The old-city markets are busiest in the evening, when the food stalls and the bazaars are at their liveliest.

Carry cash for the old-city eateries and markets. Amritsar's famous food — kulchas, lassi, jalebis — is mostly sold at small old-city places that do not take cards, and the best ones are found by walking, not by searching.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the hotel?

117 Hall Bazaar, Katra Ahluwalia, Amritsar — in the old-city market area near the Golden Temple.

Why do this hotel's photos say 'Google Maps listing'?

The hotel's official Wyndham gallery uses CSS background images with no downloadable element, so the photos here come from the hotel's own gallery on its Google Maps listing — the same approach used for the Holiday Inn in Jaipur.

Does the hotel have free WiFi?

Yes — free WiFi is confirmed on the hotel's own Wyndham page.

Does the hotel have a pool?

The hotel's own photos show a rooftop pool with loungers, orange umbrellas and a gazebo, plus poolside dining. The official text page does not list a pool, so we show it only as photo-evidenced.

Can I book this hotel through Cheapcab?

No. Cheapcab is a taxi service. You book the hotel on its official website using the Book button on this page. Cheapcab only arranges your taxi.

Is breakfast included in the room price?

That depends on the room type and the offer you pick. Breakfast rules change with the season, so please check them on the hotel's official website before you book. We do not want to give you old information here.
