Overview

About this property

Hotel Pushkar Palace is a palace hotel near Pushkar Lake, close to the Brahma Temple. Its own site says every stay gives you views of the peaceful lake, and the hotel's whole appeal is that closeness — lake-view rooms, sit-outs over the water, and sunsets watched from the palace itself.

The building is a four-storey palace, beautifully decorated with period furniture, pictorial frescoes, hand-painted family portraits and rare paintings, according to the hotel's own site. The gallery shows white arched buildings around a courtyard with a fountain, and interiors with arches and traditional detail.

The hotel's afternoons are its signature. Its own site describes cushioned alcoves and hued sit-outs overlooking the eventful lake, where you can stretch out with a book, eat fresh bakes from the German Bakery in the palace premises, and listen to temple bells and chants from nearby temples and ghats.

Pushkar Palace suits couples and families who want a heritage-style stay by the ghats rather than a resort outside town. It is in town, by the lake, and the lake and temples are the stay — not a drive away from it.

Rooms

Palace rooms with lake views

The hotel's own site names two room types: Suite Rooms and Super Deluxe Rooms. Suite Rooms have spacious interiors, a separate living area, a king-sized bed with luxurious linens and a bathroom designed to pamper you. Super Deluxe Rooms are comfortable and stylish, with elegant decor that reflects the palace's heritage.

Rooms come with modern amenities — air conditioning, satellite television, telephone and minibar — alongside the period furniture and frescoes. The gallery shows four-poster beds in the suites, twin beds in the Super Deluxe rooms, and sitting areas with red sofas.

If the lake view matters to you, ask for a lake-view room when you book. The hotel's own site stresses lake views as its main feature, and a room facing the lake gives you the sunsets the hotel is known for.

We do not state a total room count for this hotel. The hotel's own page gives conflicting numbers in different sections, so we leave the count out rather than pick one and risk being wrong. Room types and prices change with the season, so the hotel's website has the latest list.

Food & drink

Where to eat

Prince Restaurant is the main restaurant, where traditional Rajasthani hospitality meets contemporary cooking. Its own site says it serves authentic Rajasthani cuisine and international specialties, in a room decorated with ornate decor and Rajasthani motifs.

Terrace Dining is the view option: set atop the hotel's terrace, with panoramic vistas of Pushkar's landscape, hills and valleys, and a gentle breeze. It suits special occasions and casual gatherings alike, and it is the sunset table to ask for.

Chhatri Dining is the romantic option — couples retreat to intimate chhatris (pavilions) with traditional Rajasthani architecture for a candlelit dinner under the starry sky. Between the three venues and the German Bakery for daytime bakes, you can eat through the day without leaving the palace.

Things to do

A day by the lake, at palace pace

A good day at Pushkar Palace starts at the lake and the ghats, a short walk from the hotel. Bathe in the morning atmosphere, walk the ghats, and visit the Brahma Temple nearby — the hotel's own site places itself near the temple, and the lake is the town's centre.

In the afternoon, come back to the palace for its signature hours: a cushioned alcove or sit-out overlooking the lake, fresh bakes from the German Bakery, and temple bells and chants drifting from nearby ghats. This is the hotel's own description of its afternoons, and it is the right way to spend them.

In the evening, Savitri Temple by ropeway gives sunset views, or stay on the palace terrace for dinner with panoramic views. A candlelit Chhatri dinner is the special-occasion pick, and the hotel's own site promises an enchanting evening of romance there.

If you have a second day, the hotel's facilities list includes camel, jeep and horse safaris, and a Kerala Ayurvedic massage — both bookable through the hotel's travel desk. Ajmer's Dargah Sharif is a short drive away for a half-day trip.

Location

Where it is, and what is near

Pushkar is a small temple town built around a sacred lake, ringed by 52 bathing ghats. The town is compact — the lake, the ghats and the temples are all within walking distance of each other, and most hotels sit a short walk or drive from the water.

The town's most famous temple is the Brahma Temple, one of the very few temples to Brahma in India. Savitri Temple sits on a hilltop above town and is reached by ropeway, with sunset views over the lake and the desert edge. Rangji Temple, built in a Rajasthani style, is the other temple most visitors stop at.

Pushkar is strictly vegetarian and dry — alcohol and non-veg food are banned in town. That shapes the town's eating: rooftop cafes by the lake serve vegetarian food with lake views, and sunset chai at a lakeside cafe is the town's evening ritual.

Getting here

How to reach the hotel

Pushkar does not have its own airport or major station. The nearest airport is Kishangarh, about 49 km from the Pushkar resort area, and Jaipur airport is about 160 km away. Ajmer Junction is the nearest big railway station, and Pushkar has a small station of its own.

By road, Pushkar is about 15 km off the Delhi–Ajmer highway (NH-48) — Ajmer is the turn-off, and the lake town is a short drive beyond it. Our Delhi–Ajmer taxi routes end at Ajmer; Pushkar is the last short leg from there.

Best time

Best time to visit Pushkar

October to March is the best time for Pushkar. The weather is cool enough for walking the ghats and the old town, and the town is at its liveliest.

The Pushkar Fair in Kartik (around November) is the one window everyone asks about — the camel fair, the markets and the crowds all peak together. If you want to come during the fair, plan months ahead, because rooms fill early.

Good to know

Before you book

Pushkar is a temple town, so plan around its rules: no alcohol and no non-veg food anywhere in town. If you want either, Ajmer city — 15 km away — has licensed shops and a wider choice of eateries.

Dress modestly around the ghats and temples, and expect shoes-off areas at the temples. The ghats are busiest in the morning and evening, when pilgrims bathe and the aarti happens.

Carry cash for small expenses in the old town's lanes and markets. The town is small and walkable, but the lanes around the lake are narrow — a car stays parked while you walk.
