The Solluna Resort sits in the Marchula valley on the bank of the Ramganga river, with about 900 metres of river front. The multi-cuisine restaurant serves Indian, continental and local food, according to the resort's own site. It is the main dining room, and it covers the day's meals for a stay that is mostly about the valley and the river.

Cafe Pebbles and Top Pavilion are the other two venues listed on the resort's site. The resort also offers private dining — Machaan, poolside and riverside breakfast — for couples and families who want a meal away from the main room.

Things to do

A day of river, jungle and quiet

A good day at Solluna starts with the river. Walk the bank in the morning, when the valley is cool and the birds are out — the resort's own site lists nature walks and bird watching among its activities, and the river front is the place for both.

Then take a jungle safari, the main reason most guests come to this valley. The resort's site lists jungle safaris, and Corbett's zones are reached from Ramnagar, 35 km away. Book your safari permit early — permits open 45 days ahead, and you should book the safari before the taxi, not after.

In the afternoon, the resort's pool and recreation center are the easy option, or a nature walk in the valley. Yoga and bonfires are also listed on the resort's site, and the dusk hour — when sun and moon are both visible, the resort's namesake — is best spent on the lawn or the river bank.

In the evening, dinner at the multi-cuisine restaurant, or a private riverside meal if you booked one, ends the day well. If you have a second day, Garjia Temple and the Solluna Waterfall are the nearby spots the resort's site mentions.

Where it is, and what is near

Jim Corbett National Park is India's oldest tiger reserve, in the Terai foothills of Uttarakhand. The Ramganga and Kosi rivers run through the region, and the forest is a mix of grassland, riverbeds and dense sal trees. The park is divided into tourism zones — Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhikala, Dhela, Durgadevi, Sonanadi, Pakhro and Garjiya — and each zone has its own access periods.

Marchula, where The Solluna Resort sits, is a valley on the Ramganga, about 35 km from Ramnagar railway station. The Garjia Devi temple on the Kosi and the Corbett Museum at Dhangarhi are the nearby sights most visitors add to a safari trip.

Getting here

How to reach the hotel

From Delhi, the road to Corbett runs via Moradabad and Kashipur to Ramnagar, then on to the safari gates. The Delhi to Jim Corbett drive is about 249 km. Morning safaris mean leaving Delhi the previous evening or very early.

Safaris run through forest department bookings, and slots open 45 days ahead. Book the safari before the taxi, and carry a valid photo ID — the gate checks it against the permit.

Your Cheapcab driver knows the Ramnagar road and the gate approaches. Tell him your resort name and your safari zone, since the gates sit in different directions from Ramnagar.

Best time

Best time to visit Jim Corbett National Park

November to June is the best time for Corbett, when the weather is most pleasant for safaris and outdoor activities. The winter months are cool in the mornings, so carry a warm layer for open-jeep safaris.

Safari zones shut in the monsoon, so do not plan wildlife days in July to September. The resort areas stay open through the year, and the monsoon brings green, quiet landscapes for a non-safari stay.

Good to know

Before you book

Safari permits are per person and per zone, and they sell out for weekends and holidays. If your dates are fixed, book permits first and the taxi second.

Gates open early and safaris leave on time. Stay the previous night near your gate if you have a morning safari, rather than driving up from Delhi the same morning.

The Kosi and Ramganga are real rivers with real currents. Do not enter the water outside marked, supervised spots, and follow the resort's and the forest staff's instructions near the riverbank.
